Why Choose the Trimetals Protect-a-Cycle Store?
Designed with all serious cyclists and security in mind, the Protect-a-Cycle store is the only bike store in the UK to be awarded the Loss Prevention Certification Board and Police Preferred Specification stamps of approval. No longer do you need to worry with your valuables, as this secure metal storage unit boasts impressive safety features such as an cable, heavy-duty security, and integral ground anchor.
If you are storing expensive bikes, live in a high crime area, or intend using the product in an exposed location such as a front garden, then we strongly recommend purchasing the Protect-a-Cycle Store from Trimetals. As well as metal storage units offer the most secure storage solution, they are also maintenance free for ease of use. This product is also approved to LPS1175 and can help housing professional gain extra points under the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Another key feature of this product is that it now comes with an option of a hinged front ramp. This allows easier access to bicycles and is useful for heavier items which may be more of a struggle to lift into the unit. This patented design simply drops down when access is needed, and folds back into position to form the lower base. The ramp is made using a one piece aluminium plate which ensures both high strength and easy operation.
A brilliant quality product. The up an over door opening is so smooth and easy to use. And I'm very pleased with the added ramp. Allow at least a day and and have two people to assemble - this is quite tricky/time consuming. Ensure you have room/width to slide the top door on at the end. We have two bikes in there comfortably but I think three would be a squeeze. Good communications from Garden Street and sadly although there is a long delivery time on the product it actually arrived a few weeks early.

Arrived missing a package which was delivered a day late. The delayed pace had been dropped and damaged. No response to a phone call regarding this. Managed to straighten out the 2 damaged panels. It's a tight fit for 2 electric hybrids!

I am really pleased with this bike store. As another commenter has noted make sure you have a full day to put this together and there are some bits like mounting the door (you have to slide it into place) that necessitate two people and i also suggest silicone spray for this bit otherwise it is fairly impossible. The instructions are pictoral but as long as you are fairly logically minded and don't mind a bit of grown up mechano then you will be fine. The lifting door mechanism means this can fit in a fairly small width and the drop door make it easy to get bikes in and out. The cabinet and the locks are robust and I feel confident that my bikes are going to be safe and secure as it is fixed to the concrete below as well. I will be getting a second one for storing other stuff. These are made to order and the lead time is clearly written - so do bear that in mind if you are in a rush to get a store.

I chose this product, a bike store, because it was a police approved product. However the overall quality is let down by poor design and detailing, poor fixings, inadequate instructions and complexity of construction. In addition the Garden Street web page was inaccurate: it does not use gas struts but fairly primitive spring loaded ones. The ground anchor cable is also not alarmed. These descriptions apply to a more expensive and more secure product. They have amended the description now but it is Type 1 rated only.
The Trimetals website is overrun by 5* and 4* reviews with little negative criticism and a suggestion that construction is simple and takes around 3 to 4 hours. Check the reviews on Amazon and other sites as well as here. I can recommend the product but suggest care is needed and allow 10-12 hours (and assistance) to construct it effectively. I am a civil and structural engineer, experienced DIY enthusiast and at one time ran a DIY store so I believe my criticisms are valid. Make sure you fix the store down with the anchors provided and against a wall if possible to avoid a massive theft risk if the back is accessible. Similarly, as reviewed elsewhere you MUST use the hasp and staples or the product is easy to gain access to.
The problems: no tools are provided and the required tools are not listed. As many of the fixings are standardised and not therefore ideal in some locations, specific tools are needed to do the job right - particularly since many fixings have to be tightened in extremely inaccessible places, often requiring two people. Why on earth was a 3mm open ended spanner and 3mm slim box spanner not provided with this expensive piece of kit? Make sure you have them!
The store can be purchased as non-secure and so rather than adapt their product, unbelievably Trimetals provide the components (and a drill bit!) to drill and fix your own hasps and staples. This is unacceptable in a product at this price. It requires great care to ensure everything lines up (and is inserted the right way round) to avoid ruining the store.
Which raises the next issue, mentioned frequently elsewhere: the instructions are of low resolution, lack sufficient narrative and lack blow-up details at crucial points as well as missing critical sequencing steps. It appears that Trimetals may have never erected their own store! My copy was dated 2015...what a shame they do not read the negative feedback.
I was provided with a useless masonry bit (buy a quality one - you will need an additional 16mm masonry bit anyway for the anchors) and two drill bits (presumably because their quality was such that one was insufficient to drill 12 small holes).
Which brings me to the next issue: not only was I given two sets of instructions, one of which states at The End that they should not be used for Protect a Cycle but I got two sets of anchor bolts (of different types) and the instructions for anchoring did not match either of them or match the holes pre-cut in the base.
If you think I am being hyper-critical, I recently also erected a secure shed from Biohort of Austria; this was superbly designed, detailed and manufactured and was complemented by all the tools required, brilliant instructions and helpful additions such as touch-up paint. What a shame their cycle store does not appear to be as secure.

The product itself is excellent in strength and features. I’m giving a 4 because of the mounting instructions included. Renderings were unclear in the sequence of items mounting (needed a bit of trial and error + detective work) and were not sufficient to cover the optionals I bought. Unfortunately found online instructions (confusing too) which merged to the included ones helped.

Similar to other reviews that can be found online this is a good designed product that provides a tidy an secure storage unit for bikes. The spring loaded door makes it easy to access. Comfortably fit 2 adult bikes with room for accessories and other bits- a third would probably be tight Delivery was arranged directly with the supplier but did have to wait the full delivery period for it to be delivered.
If you are intending to purchase do however be prepared to dedicate a whole day/weekend to installation. There are lots of fiddly screws and parts required to install. It is not as simply as your usual flat packed kits. The instruction booklet requires good amount of studying and the grainy pictures can make it difficult to figure out which way bits should be put around. The main frustration comes right at the end when you are required to drill holes into the metal for the hasp and locks as the manufacturer has been too lazy to do this for you as it’s not a “standard” feature on all units (despite appearing to be their main cycle product!)
So in summary, if you want a sturdy easy accessible place to store your bikes this does the job but you just have to do a lot of work to get it to that point which is frustrating considering the price point.

When will I receive my order?
Delivery Estimates are in working days, and the estimated delivery time for each product is shown above the ‘add to basket’ button on the product page.
Deliveries are mostly prearranged directly with yourself within a few days of placing an order; being booked in directly with a member of the delivery team/carriers. This can help to confirm a working delivery date which is best for you. When ordering, please provide an active mobile phone number to help delivery to be promptly booked in, and to ensure that there is no delay in receiving your order.
Please note, that some smaller items which can be posted or go via small carrier may be dispatched immediately, without contacting you first. If you have any doubts over your order status please contact us.
Will I receive a timeslot for my delivery?
As we use a wide range of carriers for delivery, you may not receive a time slot for your order.
